    • Reconciliation (or penance, confession)

The sacrament in which sins committed after baptism are confessed after an examination of conscience and forgiven by a priest in the name of Christ.

"Forgive us our sins, for we ourselves also forgive everyone who is indebted to us. Bring us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."    Luke 11:14

After the Resurrection, Jesus established this sacrament for his followers. He realized that even after Baptism we would still have to deal with the reality of sin. The reconciling of man to God is the purpose of Reconciliation. When we sin, we deprive ourselves of God’s grace. And by doing so, we make it even easier to sin some more. The only way out of this downward cycle is to acknowledge our sins, to repent of them, and to ask God’s forgiveness. Then, in the Sacrament of Confession, grace can be restored to our souls, and we can once again resist sin.

      ~Verbal confession of sins
~Words: "I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen"

The sacrament of Reconciliation is offered each Saturday at 3:30 to 4:00 PM or by appointment.  Call (508) 829-4508.
