What a great night for St. Mary’s Volleyball on Monday at St. Christopher's Parish!

Huge congratulations to both teams on strong performances last night, what a great showing all around!

The rec team dominated, sweeping all three sets with impressive scores of 21–5, 21–4, and 21–4. Shoutout to some standout serving runs: Gwen and Luca crushed it with 12/11 serves in a row, Maddie set the tone early with 6 straight, and Calvin powered through with an 8-serve streak. Amazing focus and consistency! The team showed great control and using the 3 hits when possible.

The comp team also put together a fantastic match. We came out strong with a 21–17 win in the first set, hit a bit of a slowdown in the second (16–21), but showed incredible resilience in the final set, battling back from behind to secure a 21–16 victory. That comeback energy was awesome to watch!

Across the board, everyone played incredibly well, great ball control, smart setups, and excellent use of all three touches. It’s clear the teamwork and effort are paying off.

It was another exciting week for our St. Mary's Volleyball teams as both our Recreational and Competitive squads continued to grow in skill, confidence, and teamwork. This week's emphasis on communication was clearly reflected on the court, with both teams demonstrating tremendous effort, determination, and support for one another.

      Recreational Team

Our Recreational Team battled through an exciting three-set match against Our Lady of the Lake (Leominster). Although they came up just short, falling 2–1 (16–21, 21–17, 21–12), the team showed remarkable improvement throughout the match.
Players communicated consistently, called every ball with confidence, and supported one another through several long rallies. One of the highlights came when the team hustled to save a ball that appeared to be heading out of bounds, calmly keeping it in play before turning it into a well-earned point. Their patience at the net and willingness to work together resulted in some outstanding rallies and demonstrated just how much the team continues to develop each week.

      Competitive Team

The Competitive Team faced one of the league's toughest opponents, the reigning champions from St. John Paul II (Southbridge). While the final score was 0–3 (17–21, 18–21, 19–21), the close set scores reflected the team's resilience and steady improvement.
Several players delivered standout performances throughout the evening. Becca energized the team with a four-point serving run. Mike made an excellent block that deflected off his fingertips, allowing Becca to react quickly with a great dig before sending the ball back over for the point. Liam contributed with a powerful spike and a timely block, while Curt put together an impressive sequence of four consecutive blocks during one rally to help secure an important side-out. Strong setting, improved communication, and coordinated team play were evident throughout the match.

      Looking Ahead

Both teams continue to make tremendous progress, especially in their communication, teamwork, and confidence on the court. Every practice and every match brings new growth, and it has been exciting to watch these athletes encourage one another while developing their skills.
Keep communicating, supporting one another, and trusting the process—great things are ahead!
A special thank you to Coaches Sam and Raendi for their outstanding leadership, encouragement, and dedication to both teams. Your commitment is helping our athletes grow both on and off the court, and we are truly grateful.

      Recreational Team

Our Rec team battled hard but came up just short, falling 1-2 to St. Peter's.

      Scores:

      • Game 1: 21-15 (Loss)
      • Game 2: 15-11 (Win)
      • Game 3: 15-9 (Loss)

Following Game 1, there was an extended pause due to a heat exhaustion incident involving a member of the St. Peter's team. To make up for the lost time, Games 2 and 3 were shortened and played to 15 points.

Despite the challenging conditions and interruption, our team showed great resilience and hustle throughout the evening. We responded well by taking Game 2 and continued to compete hard until the final point of Game 3.

A special shoutout to Brennan, Luca, Lucy, Nate, Maddie, and Dylan for their excellent serving runs. Their consistency from the service line helped keep momentum on our side and put pressure on our opponents. The team also demonstrated great hustle all around, with everyone working hard to keep balls in play and support one another on the court.

      Competitive Team

The Competitive team had an outstanding night, sweeping all three games. Due to the earlier delay, all games were also played to 15 points.

      Scores: 15-11, 16-14, 15-11

The team displayed excellent communication, ball control, and teamwork throughout the match. It was especially great to see us consistently using all three hits and maintaining our composure when rallies became a little hectic.

      Here are some highlights:

      • Gianna had a great hit
      • Igor, Becca, Eric and Zelena for strong serves
      • Gabby and Liam had great sets

In addition to the strong volleyball skills on display, the team showed tremendous hustle from start to finish. Everyone remained engaged, communicated well, and worked hard to keep rallies alive. That effort and energy played a major role in the team's success.

Overall, both teams represented themselves well with great sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination. Keep up the great work, and let's carry that momentum into next week!

Our second match after a long break was nail-biter vs St.John Guardian 1(Clinton).

      - Final Score 21-17 St.John

Unfortunately we were too far behind for a comeback.

      What a fantastic season!

We are incredibly proud of our St. Mary's Comp team for finishing the season in 2nd place. It has been so much fun watching each of you grow, compete, and support one another throughout the year.

While we weren't able to advance past the quarterfinals in yesterday's tournament, we held our heads high. Congratulations to St. Matthew's of Southborough on winning the tournament.

We are incredibly proud of the effort our team put forth all season. Your hard work, determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship were on full display from start to finish. We saw great communication on the court, unselfish play, and a willingness to share the ball, all of which made this team special.

A huge thank you to all the parents, family members, and friends who supported the team every step of the way. Your encouragement and dedication mean so much to our players and coaches.

Finally, we'd like to congratulate our seniors, Curt, Maddie and Jack. Thank you for your leadership, commitment, and the positive impact you've made on this team. We wish you all the best in your next chapter!

      God Bless you all.

      Coach Zenny, Sam and Raendi
